EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic modality designed for treating distressing or traumatic memories. The theory behind EMDR is that many emotional difficulties are the result of distressing life experiences which have not been properly stored in our memory banks. Therefore, these memories are said to be unprocessed or blocked. EMDR helps re-process these memories within the safe confines of a therapist’s office, ultimately leading to proper storing and symptom reduction.

EMDR is conducted utilizing visual, auditory, or tactile bi-lateral stimulation (a rhythmic left to right pattern) to engage the brain in re-processing thoughts, images, emotions, and sensations associated with the trauma.
